Dry Eye

What is Dry Eye and Blepharitis?

Dry Eye is when tears don't function as they should do – the normal function of tears is to keep the surface of the eyes wet and lubricated. Dryness and irritation can be caused by a number of factors. These include:

  • The eyes may not be making enough tears
  • The tears produced are of poor quality
  • The tears evaporate faster than they should
  • The eyelids may be inflamed, leading to any of the above

If you suffer with these you may get symptoms such as:

  • Pain
  • Blurring of vision
  • Redness
  • Excessive watering
  • 'Tired' eyes
  • Photophobia (light sensitive)
  • Dryness
  • Irritation from the wind
  • Contact lens discomfort
  • There is no current cure for these conditions, but they can be managed with a simple daily routine.

We have looked for the products we think best suit the management of these conditions and applied them to the routine we think best controls dry eyes and blepharitis. This includes specialist products to heat and cleanse inflamed eyelids and preservative free drops to minimise sensitivities and maximise comfort.

We have staff in all of our practices that have been trained as ocular hygienists by Spectrum Thea. Come in for a chat with one of them to find the best products that will work for you and fit in to your daily routine.
